“ The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,  he enables me to tread on the heights.” Habakkuk 3:19

In Habakkuk chapter 3, Habakkuk is listing out all his legitimate needs that have gone unnoticed by the God he serves.  The fig tree does not bud, no fruit on the vine, the olive crop fails.  It’s almost as he is praying and crying out his disappointments to God.  Then we read verse 18, yet.  “Yet I will rejoice in God.”  I am crying out to God with heartfelt disappointments, maybe even anger, yet I will rejoice.  Why?  Because of verse 19 – “He is my strength.”

Habakkuk is saying, even if God doesn’t answer my prayer, I will rejoice and he remains my strength.  God still gives me exactly what I need.  His faith is not in fig trees, nor in vines or the crop.  His strength is in the Lord and he will help me walk through the rough road that lies ahead.  He will give me the sure-footed feet of a deer.  Feet of swiftness, agility and endurance.    God will help Habakkuk as he does for us to not lose step or fall, he guides our steps firmly, setting on them solid rock. 

We pray this passage gives you hope as his followers. It reminds us that God will give us strength and confidence in difficult times. We will run surefooted as deer during rough patches in our life. God will bring about justice.  We cannot see all that God is doing or all that he will do. We simply need to live in the strength of his Spirit and be confident in his ultimate victory.
